“Pohjola Rakennus’s reputation score is significant. As recently as last year, none of the major players in the construction industry reached the threshold for a good reputation, which Reputation&Trust starts at a score of 3.5. The company’s result is also remarkable in that the industry as a whole is currently facing challenges, which is reflected in the reputation of companies in the sector,” says Harri Leinikka, CEO of T-Media.

The reputation of the largest companies in the construction industry is at a moderate level

T-Media has been tracking the reputation of construction companies since 2018: the average reputation of construction companies is at a moderate level. In this year’s survey, companies received their highest average scores for financial performance (3.43) and employer practices (3.37).

“Being a good employer is a relative strength of the construction industry. Good employment practices are one of the key factors in building people’s trust,” says Leinikka.

The areas where the industry’s average reputation was found to be weakest were interaction (3.16) and responsibility (3.22). In T-Media’s comprehensive Reputation&Trust index, the average score for interaction is 3.28 and the score for responsibility is 3.33. In these and other areas of reputation, excluding employer reputation, the construction sector lags behind the general level of companies operating in Finland.

This is how we conducted the study

The aim of the Reputation&Trust special survey for the construction industry was to assess the reputation of companies operating in the sector among the general public. The study used Reputation&Trust, which tracks the reputation of the companies surveyed across eight different areas: governance, finance, leadership, innovation, interaction, products & services, employer practices, and sustainability.

Data for the survey was collected via an online questionnaire between April 27 and May 23, 2023. A total of 3,569 Finns participated in the survey. The survey’s target group consisted of Finns aged 15–65 nationwide (excluding the Åland Islands). The sample was weighted to be representative of the population by gender, age, and region of residence.
