The media named Antti Palola Finland's best organizational leader
A total of 228 Finnish journalists were interviewed for T-Media’s “MediaBarometer of Organizations” survey. In the survey, the journalists spontaneously named the labor market or union leader they considered to be the best. Antti Palola of STTK received the most mentions in the survey.
“The media’s appreciation is heartening, and it also serves as recognition of the work done by the entire STTK office and its member unions. The expertise and credibility praised by journalists do not arise overnight but are the result of long-term advocacy and lobbying efforts. We want to continue along these lines and avoid confrontation and unnecessary harshness, even though that seems to be in vogue these days,” Palola says.
Palola, who has served as president of STTK since 2013, has been named Best Union Leader for the second time. Palola was also named Best Union Leader in the previous survey, conducted in 2017.
“Palola’s expertise and credibility, which have broken down the traditional framework of labor market activities, remain strong. Journalists view Palola as a bold and constructive thinker,” says Sari Maunula, Research Director at T-Media, explaining the reasons given by journalists in the survey.
Jyri Häkämies of the Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK) received the second-highest number of mentions, while Millariikka Rytkönen, president of the Trade Union of Health and Social Care Professionals (Tehy), came in third.
The EK has been successful in its communications and media relations
In addition to naming the best labor market or organizational leader, the journalists also named one to three organizations that they felt had been successful in their communications and media relations. The Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK) received the most mentions.
“We have focused on media communications, and we always strive to respond to inquiries quickly. The key point is that EK’s experts possess the best expertise on many of the topics about which the media needs information,” says Jenni Järvelä, Director of Communications at EK.
The SAK received the second-highest number of mentions, and PAM came in third.
“All three of the most frequently mentioned organizations are seen as active and visible communicators. The organizations’ communication efforts with local newspapers also receive praise. Journalists value openness, timeliness, and transparency in the organizations’ communications,” Sari Maunula summarizes the reasons given by journalists in the survey.
